First International Transporter Consortium Workshop
Bethesda, MD (October 2008)
The International Transporter Consortium was formed in 2007 and brought together scientists from industry (PhRMA), academia and the FDA for the first time to consider transporters in drug development and in particular, transporter-mediated drug-drug interactions. During a series of teleconferences many transporters were discussed and criteria for selecting transporters that mediated drug-drug interactions were developed. The first workshop was organized in October 2008 to further explore these criteria, with additional experts providing input through presentations and discussion. This workshop resulted in a manuscript, published in Nature Reviews Drug Discovery (PMID 20190787), which has been cited more than 2,000 times and also by regulatory agencies in drug-drug interaction guidances for drug developers.
Second International Transporter Consortium Workshop
National Harbor, MD (March 2012)
The second ITC workshop was arranged on March 12-13, 2012 as a preconference to the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics 113th Annual Meeting. The program included sessions on transporters of emerging interest in drug development, transporter kinetics, tools for studying transporters, regulatory issues regarding transporters, as well as case studies from academic, industry and regulatory meeting participants. A series of whitepapers resulting from the meeting were published in Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics 2013, Volume 94, Issue 1.
AAPS/ITC Joint Workshop on Drug Transporters in ADME
Baltimore, MD (April 2016)
The ITC hosted a one-day program during the joint workshop, including sessions on clinical aspects of transporters, pediatrics and special populations, and pharmaceutical industry and regulatory perspectives on guidelines for transporter studies.
Third International Transporter Consortium Workshop
Washington, DC (March 2017)
The third ITC workshop was arranged on March 13-14, 2017 as a preconference to the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics 118th Annual Meeting in Washington DC. Following the format of the 2nd workshop, the program featured a range of topics of current interest for transporter scientists in academia, industry and regulatory agencies, which were further discussed in a series of ITC whitepapers. A series of whitepapers resulting from the meeting were published in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics 2018, Volume 104, Issue 5.
AAPS/ITC Joint Workshop on Drug Transporters in ADME
Herndon, VA (April 2018)
The ITC hosted a one-day program during the joint workshop, featuring summaries of the ITC whitepapers emanating from the 3rd ITC Workshop and a session on regulatory considerations of transporters.
Fourth International Transporter Consortium Workshop
(April 2021)
The fourth ITC workshop was a virtual workshop. It followed a similar format to previous ITC workshops, and provided updates on emerging transporters, topics of current interest, together with a session on current regulatory guidelines. Whitepapers from the fourth ITC workshop were published in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics 2022, Volume 112, Issue 3 [ascpt.onlinelibrary.wiley.com].
